Miyamoto Musashi (1584-1645) was a Japanese samurai, artist, writer, tactician, teacher and rōnin in the early Edo period. A stalwart of Japanese culture, Musashi was considered a “kensei” or a sword-saint in his country. He developed and mastered Niten Ichi-ryū, a unique and challenging dual-wield swordfighting style where he simultaneously fought with two katanas, one in each hand. He is said to have the most staggering record of any samurai in history, with an undefeated 61 duels to his name. This tribute to Musashi features his sharp silhouette, with two swords at his side, as he stands proud in front of a splattered blood-red sun, showing his allegiance to both, the way of the sword and his homeland.
