Constantine the Great (272 AD-337 AD) was a Roman emperor. A successful ruler who introduced economic, social and political changes, some of which lasted for a thousand years, he is most famous for being the “First Christian Emperor”. He was the first Roman emperor who converted to the faith and played a key role in the Edict of Milan (313 AD) which proclaimed a tolerance for Christianity throughout the Roman Empire.
