C.V. Raman (1888-1970) was an Indian physicist. Known for his trailblazing work in the field of Light Scattering, discovering that when light passes through a transparent medium, some of the deflected light changes amplitude and wavelength. This came to be known as the Raman Effect and earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930, making him the first Asian ever to have received the award in any scientific field.
