Housed at the Art Institute of Chicago, this modern masterpiece is a staple of American popular culture and is one of the most recognizable paintings in the world. Named after the style of a real life home called The Dibble House in Eldon, Iowa that stands in the background of this painting, Wood wanted to depict the kind of people he imagined would live in that house. Modelled after his sister Nan Wood Graham and their dentist Dr. Byron McKeeby, he painted a pitchfork-wielding farmer and his reserved daughter, both evoking rural America in the 20th Century.
